Based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, Legion is the story of " David Haller " Dan Stevens , a man who believed himself to be schizophrenic only to discover that he may actually be the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen. From childhood, David shuffled from one psychiatric institution to the next until, in his early 30s, he met and fell in love with a beautiful and troubled fellow patient named " Syd " Rachel Keller. After Syd and David shared a startling encounter, he was forced to confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. Syd led David to " Melanie Bird " Jean Smart , a demanding but nurturing therapist who heads a team of specialists - " Ptonomy " Jeremie Harris , " Kerry " Amber Midthunder and " Cary " Bill Irwin - each of whom possesses a unique and extraordinary gift. Together, they helped David to recognize and harness his hidden powers. With their support, David finally unlocked a deeply suppressed truth - he had been haunted his entire life by a malicious parasite of unimaginable power.

David formulates a plan to kill the monster and Syd evaluates her relationship. After a cold open in which David and present Syd get in an argument about David getting in an argument with Future Syd, Chapter 16 picks up where Chapter 15 left off: inside a mainframe full of projected binary code with Ptonomy. At 17 years old, Fukuyama is approached by a government official who explains the dawn of a new psychic threat to the world. The phenomenon the man describes is the rise of powerful psychics like Farouk, but his proposed solution for maintaining privacy is rife with irony. To create an unreadable mind and keep sensitive secrets safe, the government turns to technology to create an interconnected network of consciousness. The fact that Fukuyama has been hacked by the Mi-Go monk is proof that the network is far from safe, but a nurse who reads to Fukuyama after his procedure also explains the positives of such interconnectedness.

Legion Review: Chapter 16 (Season 2 Episode 8)

Chapter 16

Right away, things are messy between David and Syd, setting the tone for the emotional journey that Syd goes on throughout the episode. Most importantly, she trusts her future-self more than she trusts David. Later in the episode, Syd and David are eerily confronted with their own future, as corpses laying arm and arm, and what may seem like a sweet end for two lovers deeply turns Syd off. Once again, Legion impresses the most at its smallest, not its most bombastic. Syd openly mourns the loss of the relationship that she and David had throughout season one, expressing that things just feel different.

Legion Season 2 Episode 8 Review: Chapter 16

Clark Hamish Linklater and Syd have been talking a lot lately. In this episode, she opens up about how different things are with her and David. She talked about how things at the hospital were what she needed, romance. But things changed when they got to the camp. It was gradual but what they are now could use a lot of work to fix.

This was a terrific episode of Legion : An exciting jailbreak, a mindfuck of a desert journey, and some intriguingly elusive telepathic trickery all came into play. Unfortunately, then it stopped dead in its tracks for a hoary after-school special about the danger of cell phones. These interstitials were interesting and served a narrative purpose up until now; for the first time here, the lesson was not only a clunky drag on the proceedings, it was much less insightful and interesting than everything around it. Aside from a somewhat awkwardly shoehorned-in origin story for Fukuyama, the workings of the Mainframe were fascinating to witness. But the centerpiece of the drama is still the relationship between Syd and David, as it should be. There are plenty of reasons for them to be apart, but the only one that matters is the one that keeps them together.
